Remedies for Vertigo
Vertigo is a type of illness in which people feel light-headed and dizzy and they have unsteady balance. Vertigo, in a person, usually occurs when he is at some high places like a tall building etc. But this doesn’t mean that vertigo is caused due to fear of heights. Vertigo can also be caused by anemia, high cholesterol, dehydration and low blood pressure. The person suffering from vertigo will feel like his whole surrounding is rotating which leads to dizziness and loss of balance. Vertigo also leads to nausea.
The most common symptoms of Vertigo are nausea, tinnitus, disorientation, vomiting, blurry vision and weakness. Vertigo is more of a symptom than a disease and so, it can be cured by treating the disease that causes it. For example, if your vertigo is because of a middle ear infection, then you need antibiotic treatment.
Vertigo is treatable by medicine as well as natural remedies. The most important remedies for vertigo are to maintain a strict and well-balanced diet and to exercise regularly. Avoid the intake of fats, starch, carbohydrates in your diet. Also, reduce the intake of alcohol such as beer, wine and other hard liquors. Include lots of vitamins and protein-rich foods in your diet.Eating healthy are the key to avoiding vertigo or for that matter, any other illness. We cannot always avoid unhealthy food in our daily diets but watching what we eat can make a huge difference.
Ginger is also known as one of the natural remedies to cure vertigo. When taken during an attack, ginger is known to reduce the symptoms of ginger very quickly. Ginkgo biloba, a Chinese herb, is one of the best remedies to cure vertigo. Ginkgo biloba increases blood flow to the brain, which, in turn helps the symptoms of vertigo to abate. Another natural remedy for curing vertigo is by soaking a mixture of almonds, pumpkin seeds, 3 tablespoons of wheat and 1 tablespoon of poppy seed and leaving them overnight. The next morning, grind this mixture and drink it with a glass of warm milk or water. Drinking this mixture once a day will help reduce the symptoms of vertigo.
It is important to stay hydrated in order to keep vertigo attacks at bay. Drink at least ten glasses of water per day. You could soak a tablespoon of coriander seeds in a glass of water and leave them overnight. Strain the water and drink it.

Vertigo and dizziness are not the same. Vertigo is more severe than dizziness. People with vertigo find it more difficult to move around because the spinning sensation affects their balance. Vertigo is mainly caused by either labrynthitis (inner ear infection) or Meniere’s disease (disorder of the inner ear).
Mild vertigo is common and usually harmless. But if your vertigo is persistent, it is crucial to seek medical attention as soon as possible. There is no scientifically proven cure for vertigo. Doctors prescribe medication aimed to cure the disease that causes vertigo.
There are many natural remedies that you can make at home and use to cure your vertigo. The most important thing to do is to maintain a strict diet. Include fluid (water or juice) in your diet. Avoid binging on snacks and fast foods such as burgers, chips, pizza etc. I would like to share two home remedies that I use whenever I suffer from vertigo.
1. Take two tablespoons of wheat grain, two tablespoons of poppy seed, eight watermelon seeds and eight to nine almonds. Grind them altogether to make a paste. Then fry the paste with ghee and a couple of cloves. After frying, add the mixture to a glass of warm milk and drink it. Drink this mixture everyday for a week.
2. Mix a teaspoon of coriander seeds and a teaspoon of gooseberry powder in a glass of water and leave it overnight. The next day, strain the mixture and drink it. If you want, you can add half a teaspoon of sugar.
Ginger is also an effective and quick remedy for curing vertigo. Ginkgo Biloba, a Chinese herb, is one of the best remedies used to cure vertigo.
Curing vertigo is easy enough but wouldn’t it be better if you could prevent it completely. Like they say, prevention is better than cure. Here are a few tips on how you can prevent vertigo:
1.Do not stand suddenly if you’re either sitting or lying down.
2.Have bath with hot water in the morning. This helps in blood circulation.
3.Do not wear tight clothes.
4.Avoid smoking and drinking.
